krishnapconcepts Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) The black box is the housing. The green bar will be wrapped with nichrome wire. I need help calculating how much voltage i need to run. The battery supply must be button cells. Im sorry for the bad explanation plz ask questions so i can further explain. The wire must be hot enough to burn Edited July 11, 2012 by krishnapconcepts
krishnapconcepts Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 a lighter you could use in the wind they already have them out but i want to make my own
Hemanth Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) This is what I thought ... you can use I2R= Q , where Q is the amount of heat supplied per unit time to melt the nichrome wire , R is the resistance of the wire (you can measure it using a digital multimeter ) from this you can calculate the 'I' and using Ohm's law you can calculate the required voltage . since you need the wire to be red hot the heat supplied should be less than the heat required to melt it ..., so any voltage little less than the calculated one may get you the job done....
