robheus Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 See this video and how wave power is generating electricity at costs well below that of nuclear power!
PaulS1950 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I am a firm believer in the idea of using all forms of energy and wave energy is as good as any but this example is really pitiful. Using the wave energy to pump a small volume of water to the top of a cliff and then run it down a pipe to power a dozen electric lights? I have never heard of a nuclear power plant this small, how would you compare the two? You can connect the bouys so they turn a generator rather than pump water and make a lot more power. The losses in the pumping system and the distribution of the water that is pumped and then fall to the turbine are over 50%. You don't use wind turbines to pump water into a reservoir to power a water tubine that makes power - you use the wind to make the electrical power. Paul
robheus Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 I guess this was done to have a stable output of power and buffer the energy ??
