psi20 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Could people float across the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean and live?
Callipygous Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Could people float across the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean and live? could you be a little less specific please?
Primarygun Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Could people float across the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean and live? I don't think so. The water temperature is very low. Also, the oceans are very large and they need to spend a lot of energy swimming and keeping their body warm. Big waves, sharks, rains, factors which may make the situation worse.
bloodhound Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 yes , they do it all the time, on ships anyway
premjan Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Kon Tiki, and extremely muscular Tongans indicates that it is possible but difficult.
Auk Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 With or without a lifejacket? For how long? Wearing clothes? How old? At night? What a tough question!!!
Glider Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 If they were immersed, no. The body loses heat four times faster in water than in air, and it's hard to maintain your temperature for long under those circumstances. Exhaustion would soon set in and hypothermia would kill you.
