boris_73 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 ive got another one get a formula to make me invisable, that would be great
YT2095 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Whoever made that last "post" could have at LEAST typed something! *Sheesh*
TimeTraveler Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Cloning food would be pointless. We currently have enough food to feed the world - the problem is one of distribution and economy. Maybe, maybe not. I will save that debate for another time
Verusamore Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Turning infertile land into fertile land .
Sayonara Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Maybe, maybe not. I will save that debate for another time It won't be much of a debate - look at the WHO web site some time. Cloning food will use more resources than just growing it conventionally.
YT2095 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Turning infertile land into fertile land .I like doing that too:) albeit on a small scale, infact I read the other day that with the "dust" that comes from Quarry work esp in gravel, that dust can be used in a 1 to 4 mix with ordinary depleted soil to give it another 5 years worth of mineral boostage all from a mixture of crushed rock dust that gets dumped most of the time
Severian Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 In chronological order: 1. The discovery of the Higgs boson (or other method of Electroweak symmetry breaking) 2. The discovery of Supersymmetry (or other solution to the hierarchy problem) 3. The formulation and test of a consistant GUT model (E6?)
YT2095 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 In chronological order: 1. The discovery of the Higgs boson (or other method of Electroweak symmetry breaking) 2. Holy Crap! that`s a tall Order! erm... would you like Fries with that? )
Severian Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Holy Crap! that`s a tall Order! erm... would you like Fries with that? ) The first 2 should be answered by the LHC in a few years. The last one is a bit more tricky but there are steps to at least rule out certain GUT models at the LHC.
TimeTraveler Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 It won't be much of a debate - look at the WHO web site some time. Cloning food will use more resources than just growing it conventionally. Now, but we are talking about science feats that we would like to see. If you were able to replicate matter, a lot of resource problems would not be. Besides our distribution process currently is doing almost as much harm as good to countries economy, not to mention politics. A new solution is needed, I don't really care what the solution is, if it ends the hunger problem without causing drastic other problems, and I see that in my lifetime, I will die a little happier.
AzurePhoenix Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 get a bunch of really cool gems and use them in a newly invented lightsaber, then go chop things up oh, and discover the pheremones required to enslave all furbies and create a grand army with which to enslave the universe, with my lightsaber at my side
Sayonara Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Now, but we are talking about science feats that we would like to see. If you were able to replicate matter, a lot of resource problems would not be. Replication is not the same as cloning. Make your mind up what you are talking about. Besides our distribution process currently is doing almost as much harm as good to countries economy, not to mention politics. A new solution is needed, I don't really care what the solution is, if it ends the hunger problem without causing drastic other problems, and I see that in my lifetime, I will die a little happier. Well quite.
TimeTraveler Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Replication is not the same as cloning. Make your mind up what you are talking about. You misunderstood me, but it doesn't matter, you see my point as to what I would like to see. Sorry for the confusion.

iglak Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 skycars... everywhere... oh! oh! and... and 20-story cities! and a holodeck... with video games in it! and make them hard!
Gilded Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 "Viable fusion power plants replacing all fossil fuel burners." Didn't they try to use "neodymium lasers" to achieve fusion without the high temperatures? Beats me what a neodymium laser actually is.
