fresh Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 some people look always happy and seldom feel down, whereas some are vulnerable to blues. i think it is mainly due to their life experience and life attitude. when people get lots of blues and nothing can cheer them up in long term, does it show they have depression? what if that depression can go away on its own when they win a lottery or find a wonderful lifemate or receive a job promotion, or any good things, etc ? if it is working on them, they no need to take any medicine, that depression is just like a bad cold, everyone can get. it seems a fake depression. (as common as a bad cold everyone could get.) what is a real depression ? how common is it ? is it the one which is not due to bad situation ? when the bad turns into good, it cures. no need medicine.(anti-depression medicine has lots of side effects, even worsens the illness) if people feel very depressed for years without a reason, it that a real depression ?? if it is a fake depression, just let it flow ? how common is it ?
iNow Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Depression is more related to the levels of seratonin and dopamine in the brain. Usually when these levels are low we can see the depressed mood state. There is a clinical definition for depression, and it's a bit more than just, "feeling blue or sad." Here is a very high level overview for you: http://www.allaboutdepression.com/dia_01.html On a lighter note:
fresh Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 On a lighter note: Thanks for your information, the depression i described, such as mood swing, sadness, lots of blues, could only fall into Mild category: A few symptoms, if any, are present beyond what is needed to make a diagnosis, and a person can function normally although with extra effort. it is not clinical depression( It takes more than just tearfulness or a feeling of sadness on the part of the client to indicate the presence of depression. ) , but only chronicle sadness. what if a person who wants to kill himself due to his bad life situation and cant stop thinking about it for a very long time without any moderate or severe symptoms(he looks quite normal from outside), could end up committing suicide, can we say that is a very severe clinical depression ? and it must be treated by doctor and given anti-depression medicine ?
iNow Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 There is no one right answer. Each circumstance and each person will be a little different. Each case must be evaluated for what it is, and it doesn't help us to apply labels in a general way, especially when we lack a lot of other detail. From a very high level, though... Whatever the cause and whatever the source, it is very much related to the balance of neurochemicals in our system. Serotonin and dopamine being two of the more critical for consideration with the issue of depression.
