dominique111791 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Hi guys! We're 5th yr architecture students and we would like your help please!!!! we are currently doing a thesis about an interactive museum of science and technology and we would just like to ask if you have any information or suggestions concerning on the topics of Physics and its experiments. THANKS!!!!
dominique111791 Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 um.. we were asked to specify what experiments to place in the museum and its difficult finding sources... can you give us a suggestion? The spaces in the museum are defined by not only the basic spaces of the museum but also basing on the experiments that will be displayed. an example would be that some experiments need larger space(enclosed or open) or that they will need some source of electricity. do you know any large scale experiments we can add in?
studiot Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Museums often divide up their space into themes or categories. For example Science and Technology in the Service of Man Science and Technology through the ages Important figures in Science and Technology Frontiers of Science and Technology and so on I don't know where you are but are there any local or national heros in Science and Technology? Are there any local/national industries or observatories that deserve special mention eg an astronomy telescope? Interactive exhibits that measure personal perfomance eg a cycle powered generator that shows output as a function of effort are always popular with youngsters - There is alwys a queue for this sort of exhibit at the Science Museum in Scotland. Finally it is a good idea to allocate some space for changing exhibitions and some for fixed exhibitions.
dominique111791 Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Actually... the only museums available here are cultural and heritage museums. The nearest available location within our country is just a 1 hour flight from our airport to there. Other location is out of of the country. as for the planetarium, its in the same location as the museum along with the observatory. We are planning this as our thesis as it is non-existent here in our location :)Our themes are mostly based on physics and chem with other branches of science as minors(earth science: environmental science & hydrology biology: ecology, entomology, botany, anatomy.) what we have researched are mostly under the category of mechanics, a bit of acoustics, optics, electromagnetism ,electricity , magnetism, hydraulics and thermodynamics experiments (mostly for interactive and demos) we planned to have the Tesla coils as one of the experiments and also the windmill generator, interactive led floor, earthquake simulation, the corn starch pool where you can walk all over it. >v< we have researched other experiments as well and have a bit of understanding the space they required/needed but so far, if put together, they only took up a small portion of the museum.. we're deciding to put a planetarium and an observatory if we could handle it. as for the technology. we are currently researching but we have found a few and some of the experiments can be considered as technology..about our themes.. yes we planned to have different themes THANKS hypervalent_iodine & studiot for replying
