mississippichem Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Procedure:A copper wire is polished by a piece of steel wool. Then it is placed into the hottest part of the Bunsen burner (blue flame) for 20 seconds. What is the product produced, and a balanced chemical equation? If you could display some of your reasoning I'll be glad to help further. Answering the question for you doesn't do you a favor. Anyway, for now I have some questions for you that will hopefully nudge you in the right direction. 1) When something is burned in air, the compound or element is being oxidized so what gas in our atmosphere is a good oxidizer? 2) What does it mean to oxidize something? 3) Pure copper metal is in what oxidation state? What are the other common oxidation states for copper?
