Douglas Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 There are organizations in the U.S. that want to abolish the National Christmas tree in Washington D.C. and call it the National holiday tree. Is this a good idea?? On December 9 the Capitol Holiday tree from Virginia was officially lit!http://www.capitolholidaytree2004.org/
YT2095 Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 any clue as to the motivation BEHIND the seemingly pointless name change?
Parcival Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 "National Holiday Tree" is way too bland a name. Presumably, someone thinks that christmas trees are christian symbols. They were originally pagan, then christian, and now almost devoid of religious signifigance.
Douglas Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 any clue as to the motivation BEHIND the seemingly pointless name change? Yes, the ACLU (American civil liberties union) and other secular groups are hell bent for leather on abolishing all Christmas (Christ/God) related ojects/songs/ etc from the public arena.
YT2095 Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 pity they couldn`t happen across the NRA in that case. I say Long Live the Christmas Tree!!!!
john5746 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I guess the ACLU doesn't have enough to do - good!

How are the people reacting to this in America? In Britain they would be laughed at, no one would take them seriously. Or is this a wind up? Are you making it up to try and get a rise?

However, the rank and file aren't organized, the special interest groups are organized, thus, the attack on Christianity. Anyway, no, I'm not trying to wind anyone up.
