cheem Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Hi, For a number like 45 915, are both ways of writing that number below in words correct? Is there a more standard way? Forty-five thousand, nine hundred and fifteen. Forty-five thousand and nine hundred and fifteen. Thanks in advance and sorry for asking such a basic question here
Auk Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I don't think that Forty-five thousand and nine hundred and fifteen is the proper way to say it. To many and's. As for the other one I think that's right.
YT2095 Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 using the "AND" can imply addition in some cases too. lose the "And"
Gilded Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Yeah, losing some "and"s is quite clarifying in most cases. You lose the "and then and then and then" kind of feel, which isn't necessarily what you want. However, there are cases where the "and" is most necessary. For example, such is the case with writing the word "fanduck".
bloodhound Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 i would pressonally go for the first one. thats how i write the amount if i have to write a cheque.
violetendncy Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 I've also seen "and" used to express the location of the decimal point, bringing us to "forty-five thousand nine-hundred fifteen."
