Guest leehinkleman Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I need a wax to soften a mixture of 2 parts of rosin and 1 part of beeswax. The rosin is 'bow rosin', used by violinists, and the beeswax is refined, white beeswax. The beeswax and rosin were melted together, but froze into a mixture with a rock-candy texture. I would rather avoid using oils or solvents to lower the melting point, and to soften the mixture, and hope that another wax could be suggested to add to the rosin and beeswax. Thanks for your advice.
YT2095 Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 can`t you simply add more beeswax to this mix? Using Petroleum jelly (Vasaline) in the melt will soften it quite well also. IF you do go the Oil route, I`de reccomend the sort used on Furniture or in Artwork, it doesn`t oxidise too readily and is low in Acid content.
Guest leehinkleman Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I think I'll try the Vaseline first, and then keep testing other additives. The greater proportion of rosin to beeswax may be needed to make the result 'tacky'. Thanks very much for your reply.
