Alternately, any battery source that can heat a single strand of steel wool red-hot (wrapped around wire leads) will work. I've ignited black powder remotely that way before.

In case somebody is tempted by experiments with black powder: beware, it's one among the most treacherous explosives. Sometimes it detonates, sometimes it burns out, under conditions seemingly identical.
