Playmaker03 Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Just curious to everyone's. Mines by far Stephen Baxter, although A.C Clarke is of course up there.
Playmaker03 Posted December 29, 2004 Author Posted December 29, 2004 Oh.. and fav sci fi novel aswell.
ecoli Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Douglas Adams/Hitchhicker's Robert Heinlein/ Stranger in a Strange land Michael Chrieton/The Andromeda strain
[Tycho?] Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Larry Niven- Ringworld/Ringworld Engineers Wiliam Gibson- Neuromancer Frank Herbert- Dune Orson Scott Card- Ender's Game Those are my favorite books (in no particular order). Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C Clarke was also good, but it just doesn't strike the same chord as these other books. I actually just finished Rama 2, and found it to be horribly dissapointing.
ecoli Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 ']Larry Niven- Ringworld/Ringworld EngineersWiliam Gibson- Neuromancer Frank Herbert- Dune Orson Scott Card- Ender's Game Was DUne good. I have it, but I've never got around to reading it. Is it worth it?
Al Caponeoni Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Douglas Adams. Arthur C. Clarke. And Dune was alright. . . well, actually, it was great. But it is still overrated, in my opinion.
J'Dona Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Robert A. Heinlein, for my favourite novel (Stranger in a Strange Land) and my favourite short story (The Long Watch).
Tesseract Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Arthur C. Clarke and 2001:A space odyssey, Dune was good too.
bloodhound Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 isac asimov... classic stuff. I wanted to get hold of the andromeda strain but can't get it anywhere. i guess i have to buy it.
ecoli Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I found my copy in a used book store. It's in pretty good condition too. Unfortunately some parts are a tad unbelievable, but on the whole a good read.
Playmaker03 Posted December 29, 2004 Author Posted December 29, 2004 Thanks guys, ill check some of those out.
bloodhound Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 i can't remember what book i read by michael crichton.... it was something about an alien virus which ate humans from inside out turning them into rubbish.... it basically happens is a ship, where they are performing experiments, but due to the lack of gravity, strange form of things leak into the sthip.....
Lance Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Dan Simmons - Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, Rise of Endymion
Babbler Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I haven't realy alot of science fiction (or much fiction, in any case), but I liked The Chrysalids by John Wyndham and Nemesis (although juging by the comments on Amazon, it not that popluar...) by Issac Asmiov. I didn't finish Dune or I, Robot maybe I read it some time.
husmusen Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 For classic stuff I'd have to go with Asimov, inparticular the 'foundation' sieries and Bicentennial man(the book that is).
Tetrahedrite Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Yeah...the chrysalids is good, but my favourite is stranger in a strange land, closely followed by hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.
brave_new_world Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Isaac Asimov- Foundation Series David Brin-Earth Orson Scott Card-Ender's Game Iain M. Banks- Player of Games Frank Herbert-Dune
USMA German Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Starship Troopers - Robert A. Heinlein The best! Fischhaber Go Army Branch: EN
-Demosthenes- Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 isac asimov... classic stuff. Only the greatest sci fi author ever. And Orson Scott Card. Foundation, Robot, Empire, and Enders series.
