Crimson Sunbird Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 It has to do with the fact that water has a much higher specific heat capacity than land. Water (compared with land) takes a long time to heat up, and once heated up takes a long time to cool down.

Finally, water is also transparent, and sunlight can penetrate into the liquid. On land it is absorbed exclusively by the top layer. m_ellini, if this is homework, please post it there. You are doing nobody a favor by just getting the answers to homework without thinking about it.
