hakodana Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 hello, if you have the compound : 2,6,6-trimethyl-4-(1-methylethyl)nonanethe trimethyl and the branched 1-methyl- both starts with the letter "m",how do you choose which one gets the priority? according to the numbers (2 or 4)?
Knumbnuts Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Well isopropyl is a recognised IUPAC fragment, ChemDraw gives this compound as 4-isopropyl-2,6,6-trimethylnonane
CarbonCopy Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Yes according to the numbers. 2,6,6-trimethyl has more priority.
