Ben Banana Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Are elephants more sentient than hungry-hungry-hippos? Ethically, which are the best to hunt? -3
DevilSolution Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 In what circumstance would you need to? where is agriculture *impossible* ?
Moontanman Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I think it's demonstrable that elephants are smarter than hippos, what is your point ethically?
DevilSolution Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) I think it's demonstrable that elephants are smarter than hippos, what is your point ethically? Intelligence doesnt dictate sentience, though elephants are probably more sentient also. His argument would be that killing an animal of higher sentience is less ethical than that of a lower, such as farming humans for meat against farming cows. We'd obviously declare ourselves more sentient, though the proofs in the pudding. Edited March 12, 2013 by DevilSolution
CaptainPanic Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 ! Moderator Note Although the opening post was an obvious attempt to troll, this thread seems to be developing in a proper way (good job guys). Still, Ben Banana, do not attempt to add any more troll-posts once you've sobered up. 1

It works out really well when you are defining sentience, I wonder what the elephants think of us... dangerous and cruel, stupid little creatures... cows on the other hand are just tasty.... I think it's interesting to try and conceive of what other animals think of us. Elephants are highly intelligent if somewhat different that us, they have social structure, pass down knowledge in a way that is similar to the idea of human culture. There is still been evidence showing that cows are highly sentient, hiding there offspring from slaughter and enjoying music etc
