FelixJulius Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Hello everybody, I'm currently trying to dissolve a carotenoid (Astaxanthin). I did it in ethanol, DMSO and Polyethylene glycol. But the problem is that these 3 solvents interfere with the subsequent analyses I'm trying to do. Does anybody have an idea what other solvent I could test? It should be miscible in water and not have toxic effects on cells and membranes. Thanks in advance for any suggestion Have a nice weekend
GlycoMaster Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 You may want to try acetonitrile. I'm not an expert on the relative toxicity of solvents, but if your cells can handle DMSO then acetonitrile shouldn't pose a problem. It would be helpful to know what kind of analyses you are running, and how the other 3 solvents are interfering...
