Severian Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I am finding lately that when I am using math mode to display formulae via latex that they are not showing up properly. I just get a 'missing image' red cross, whith the latex commend itself. Is anyone else finding this, or is it just me?
bloodhound Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 test [math]x^2[/math] edit: it works for me! try pressing ctrl + f5

ydoaPs Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 i have the same problem. it does show up for simple things like [math]\pi, \infty, x^2[/math], but it doesn't show up on bigger things like equations.
bloodhound Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 test 3 [math]\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}\frac{1}{k^2}=\frac{\pi^2}{6}[/math] [math]x^3 - x^2 - x - 1 = 0[/math]
paganinio Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I just started to learn using TeXniC, it bothers me a lot, it's complex

Sev I have been having latex problems too esp. in the past 24 hours-----thursday and friday Does anybody know if some change has been made, or what could be causing it?
bloodhound Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 im having problems now as well. its probably cos the server isnt parsing the latex code.
ydoaPs Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 now it isn't doing it at all. it just says [ math ]...[ /math ] without the spaces.
The Rebel Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Gee' date=' I wonder if this topic has been posted already? Naw, no-one else will have noticed. I'll just make a new one.[/quote'] I never saw this post hidden down the bottom about the recent latex problems. That's just cheating.
Sayonara Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/search.php?
Martin Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Indeed, I'm working on it. Any prognosis? I would like to keep this thread current as a flag, so when I check the site i can see if LaTex is back yet.
Dave Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Any prognosis? Happens every time blike updates the forum software - the latex code always ends up getting shunted
Martin Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Happens every time blike updates the forum software - the latex code always ends up getting shunted what a shame that happens! extra admin trouble. thanks for the reply, dave. hoping for a early recovery!
Guest Gary King Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 latex doesn't seem to work for me as well; it's broken!
Martin Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 latex doesn't seem to work for me as well; it's broken! hi Gary, I see you just joined today. Welcome to SFN! One of the real plusses of this discussion board IS in fact the LaTex feature which has worked beautifully most of the time i have been here. It encourages people who know their physics to explain things using equations (not just handwaving) to those asking questions. So just having the means to write clear equations will often steer a conversation onto a constructive, physically real, track. it is a great feature to have! I hope you stay around---especially since you are a LaTex user---until it is up and running again. The problem goes back to a software update around New Years, if I remember right.
Dave Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Indeed. I haven't heard anything from blike about it, so I don't really know what's going on
bloodhound Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 dave, since u started posting again i assume ur exams are over. 4 of mines finihsed and 2 more to go. and they are not going well by any means.
