Silencer Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Majorgeeks is just a mirror that helps out the distribution of the spybot software. You can come down from your ultra paranoid level. As for the original question, I assure you it cannot be done. If I had physical access to your machine, no matter what you did I could still continue using it.
bloodhound Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 yes i know its a mirror. just wondering why the majorgeeks didnt have reference to safer networking. and neither did the main spybot site have anything about the patch.
5614 Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4392.html (the original link supplied by sayo) gives us the name of the person who wrote the update, this is the same person who wrote the original program.
ecoli Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 I downloaded adaware...but when I try and delete critical files, it stops on the loading bar, and I have to restart my computer. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Silencer Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 maybe it didn't really stop? it could seem to have frozen when it was really just taking a long time (especially if you have lots of files to be deleted). btw, who is that in your avatar?
Jordan14 Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 ecoli probally some form of malware is stopping Ad-Aware in its tracks. I advise that you download HijackThis: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html And post your log at: http://www.spywareinfo.com Or if you are allowed you could post it here and I could have a look through
Silencer Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 I have never heard of malware disabling adaware. That seems very unlikely.
bloodhound Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 i ve heard of such things. some strains of CoolWebSearch do that. (or similar, like not allowing to go to the mirrors providing anti-adware software)
Jordan14 Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Yep, it is very true the nasty Spyware L2M, CWS etc, etc. Can stop scanners, stop people going to sites that help with spyware etc, etc. I strongly recommend that ecoli sorts it out. If you get a HijackThis log I can sort all the spyware out.
