justlukeyou Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I live in the UK in which their is much controversy surrounding wind turbines. They are often built in areas on natural beauty our out at sea where many people believe they damage the sealife environment. However why cant Bhaskara wheel be used to provide the turning motion instead of using wind. A bhaskara wheel can be used indoors or large units can be built in industrial areas inkeeping with the local surrounding area. Can anyone please advise why a Bhaskara Wheel cannot be used to generate electricty?
Phi for All Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Because as soon as you try to extract any work out of the system, it crawls to a halt. 1
John Cuthber Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 You don''t even need to extract work from it. Viscosity of the liquid will stop it .
Moontanman Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I love this, like sharks attracted to blood in the water, but I wonder how long it would turn compared to a identical wheel but with out the over balanced part. Would it make any real difference between the two systems?
justlukeyou Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Hi,Okay so it might not be a be perpetual motion. Maybe it could be given a kickstart every half hour with mechanically placed magnets or something clock work. But it still can be used to generate electricity.

pwagen Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Why is that please? First and second laws of thermodynamics. http://www.wisegeek.org/why-is-perpetual-motion-considered-to-be-impossible.htm Also, if you want a power source, you wouldn't want to have to "wind it up" every now and again, would you?
CaptainPanic Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I live in the UK in which their is much controversy surrounding wind turbines. They are often built in areas on natural beauty our out at sea where many people believe they damage the sealife environment. I cannot judge the beauty of the wind turbines. Personally, I think they are pretty, but then again, the Netherlands has a long history with wind mills. Biodiversity is however increased where the windparks are built. Here's an article that says that new species emerged at a Dutch wind park in the North Sea. Biodiversity increases. Also, here is a table of how humans kill birds. Wind turbines are just negligible. Cats are the biggest bird-killers, but power lines and cars also kill many millions of birds, while wind turbines kill mere thousands. In other words: cars kill more than a thousand times as many birds as wind turbines. So, while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there are no signs that wind turbines are actually bad for the sea life. On the contrary: it is probably beneficial.
