1beerplease Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Greetings people, i am a 23 year old from Australia wanting to go to uni. I droppedout of school at the end of year 10 and started my apprenticeship. Ihave been reading online a lot about the process and requirements forgoing to uni and it confuses me. For starters the subjects that i readalot about at home and the ones i would want to study are Physics, biology and chemistry. I dont know where to start to begin this process,i understand i will need some higher education to be excepted into auniversity. I was thinking tafe, than i read somewhere about openuniversities and doing online courses. What type of courses would bebest suited? I am lost as where to start pre uni education and what courses to take, and what process will be after that. Thank you.
ajb Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 You can do A-levels in mathematics and physics online. These could be of interest to you. If you are interested send me a message and I can give you more details.
imatfaal Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 In the UK - and in much of the world - after the age of 23-25ish you can study degree level courses without the same prerequisites that a school leaver would need. I did bachelors and masters part-time in my 30s at Birkbeck in London and I don't think there were any requirements other than high standard of english comprehension. The admissions process was quite strict for those without prior academic success - but by no means exclusionary. The courses at Birkbeck generally lasted a year longer than those full time at a university immediately after school and the drop out rate was extreme - seemed like about 50%. I would be very surprised if there were not similar institutions in Oz
