Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Cap%27n_Refsmmat/ScienceNews After a bit of debate, I made a column on Wikinews (a news source that anybody can edit. It's a wiki, like wikipedia) that is all about science and technology news. It's only two days old, so don't expect too much right now. Much of the material is also from my little-used blog which was for the same purpose. However, on Wikinews, I hope to get more attention so I can continue and make this a great souce for science news.
Phi for All Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Way to go, Cap'n! Will you still talk to us when you're famous?
ed84c Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 this isnt anything to do with a guy who came on here around 6 mnths back asking for columnists is it? I know i signed up, but thats as far as it got.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 Way to go' date=' Cap'n! Will you still talk to us when you're famous?[/quote'] Don't worry. As long as I don't become rich.
MolecularMan14 Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 ...not all its cracked up to be. (especially when you dont have control over it... ) anyway man, congratulations, and good luck to you! I hope it goes far!
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 If you have any ideas for an article, please tell me. I'd like to make one or two a day, and I don't think I'd have enough with the number of ideas I have.
Sayonara Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Doesn't the term "columnist" imply some sort of editorial involvement from above? Wiki News appears to be a free-for-all
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 It is a free-for-all. That's why I can do this. It also doesn't qualify under the "opinion articles poll" (which isn't going towards opinion articles) because the column is factual. I guess the only other editors are the people who want to edit it for me. If you look under the history you will see one or two who decided to help.
Sayonara Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Editorial involvement is not just editing, so the usual Wiki contributors don't really satisfy my question. I will look on the about pages for how they plan to develop the service (you might have noticed the "please give us time..." hint on the front page.)
ChienShiungW Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 It is a free-for-all. That's why I can do this. It also doesn't qualify under the "opinion articles poll" (which isn't going towards opinion articles) because the column is factual. What do you mean free-for-all? I don't know what that means. Oh, and congrats on being a columnist.
Sayonara Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 It means anyone can do it, in the same way that anyone can modify wikipedia entries.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 I suppose if the column is successful I could "hire" (with no pay, of course) some people to write articles with me, and I would edit them. That could be considered an editorial, and I'd get more articles.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Sorry, column. It's not an opinion article like an editorial. It's just news in brief. sayo: did you get my email from a while ago? I haven't heard back.
5614 Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 hey, cap'n did you stop updating this? just it hasnt been done for just over a month now.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 14, 2005 Author Posted February 14, 2005 Been a bit busy lately with my own site. Also it seemed that nobody was viewing it. I may write something if you're interested.
