ed84c Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Ive got an electronics exam in the morning, can somebody explain to me the meaning of 'gain', in terms of transistors?
ed84c Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 oh i see, thanks wasnt on the test, but useful anyway
5614 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 old thread, but the answer is still valid! transistors are current amplifiers, the amplification is known as the gain, the gain of the transistor is calculated using the equation: gain = collector current / base current
ed84c Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 so techincally it really isnt that much to do with the Transitor then, it is more to do with the PD over the Collector/ Emmiter. btw how did u find this thread?
5614 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 its to do with current... PD = potential difference = voltage gain is to do with current. i saw it in a book earlier and remember this thread!
ed84c Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 sorry, the current then. E.g. if there (potentially) is a large current runnign through the C/E when a current goes through the Base, that is more of a factor, than the type (providing its not FET or PNP)
