Mastercoolguy123 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 So I was doing a little research on dark energy and was somewhat startled at what I found, while I new the universe was expanding, it was surprising to know what from. Also I have a big question as I can't figure out what's after that, so what I'm trying to say is that if the universe is expanding doesn't that mean it has to have an end in the first place to even expand? So if their is an end to the universe than whats after that end? And if their isn't, well maybe someone could explain to me why? Hey thanks for your help, and I know I'm new here and also a little young, but I love science!
krash661 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 discovery magazine may 2013 issue. " dark energy meet the nobel laureates exploring the universe's biggest mystery " page 38. from what i have gathered so far is it's about the expansion and it ripping the universe apart. 3 ending scenario 1 big crunch 2 big rip 3 knife edge on one of the page it has a diagram, it shows, 5% normal matter of the universe 24% dark matter of the universe 71% dark energy of the universe
Mastercoolguy123 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Well thanks, ill have to take a lo Well thanks, ill have to take a look at that.
Delta1212 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 It's not expanding at an "outer edge" but between every point. The typical example used is the surface of a balloon. When you blow up the balloon, the surface expands, but it doesn't have an outer edge that it's expanding from. Similarly, universal expansion is the expansion of space at every point in the universe, not the growth of the universe into some sort of non-universe space.
