x007 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Hi everyone I've been stuck with this problem for hours now, can't seem to understand and find out the mechanism and why ... the reaction is 1) 2-methoxycyclohexene with ethanol and H+ catalyse --> ? and how/which reactionmechanism (I can't seem to figure out if the ether is unreactive or the alkene ) 2) the product from the 1) reaction now heated with water and acid to boiling point ---> what is the reaction mechanism and products ?
spirochete27 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 The compound you're describing is actually different from a simple alkene or ether. It is actually an enol ether. This is actually a single functional group rather than two separate ones.
