GR basically states that the presence of energy and matter is equivalent to changes in the geometry of space-time, in that this geometry is no longer flat but possesses intrinsic curvature. This curvature manifests as gravity, because two initially parallel-moving test particles, when crossing through a region of space-time with curvature, will start to approach each other ( this is called geodesic deviation, and forms the basis of GR's maths and physics ). So in short - in GR, gravitation is a manifestation of the curvature of space-time itself.
