FIRST OF ALL I'am not accountable for all the crap that I post on this forum, it is all due to this chip implanted in my head by my kidnappers from Jupiter.

Hello :) Yet another new person. MSci maths, now doing an MA in linguistics. Born in the UK, living in the Netherlands. Speaking English and the Dutch is getting better and better - or so I'm told. Roman Catholic (no idea why I'm including that on a science forum, but I saw some others doing so a few months ago :D ). Very very very good at procrastinating  Constantly trying to decide whether I prefer phpbb boards over vbulletin ones, and when I'm not worrying about that I'm trying to decide what to do my PhD in.

I'll be skulking round the maths section. I got burnt by A-level physics

Ello,

I'm a 2nd-year Aeronautical Engineering student at Bristol University in the UK, doing a 4-year MEng.

My interests include things that go fast and/or boom; music (piano and guitar mostly, although I got quite good at clarinet once and spent a while learning church organ); gliding; technology/computers; photography and decent fiction. I'm thinking about writing a book if and when I ever have enough free time. I also grow insectivorous plants at home but they tend to die quite a lot while I'm away at uni :-( and my dad's always trying to dig them up to use the space for 'useful' vegetables.

I hope to work in the aerospace design industry and live happily ever after with my girlfriend, who is studying English Literature and Drama far away and wants to be a teacher.

I would also like a pet gecko called Frank but I'm not allowed one in my uni accommodation.

If the powers that be give me my 't' back, I will be

yummifruitbat :)

Edit: Sayo gave me my t back! :)

Hello

I'm a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student from Sweden. I studied mainly Social Sciences in "high school" but have since taken an Engineering foundation course and I think I've found a more interesting choice of career.

Apart from Engineering topics, I'm interested in Environmental issues(edit: an emergent interest!), Contemporary literature and the History of Ideas and Science. In my spare time I'm trying to self study Physics.

Edit:

Phi for All: Yes, map-foldning the wrong way would be a complete nightmare! I also tend to align paintings/picture frames(?), even those that are not my own...

Here's a little test to see if you have what it takes: have someone tie you to a chair and fold a road map the wrong way while you watch. If you start screaming uncontrollably, congratulations! you have the mind of an engineer!

Welcome!

Hey...just stumbled upon this site, always up for a good debate or science discussion, so thought I would register and give it a try :) I am studying Microbiology here at Umass Amherst as an undergrad. Hope to go into grad school and continue my studies in biomedical research and immunology. Ummmm, guess that is all for now. See you all on the board! :D

Hmm...have I introduced myself yet?

Probably not.

Anyways, I'm Skimslim, sweet sixteen in LA, CA.

I represent universetoday.com unofficially until another UT member joins here.

I've recently embarked on a project to find as many space/astronomy discussion forum boards as I can, and this certainly has practically topped my list.

Good luck with these boards, fellas, I look forward to posting a lot more!

Hi,

I'm a first year radiology student in Canada. This was a difficult field for me to go in to because I enjoy sciences of all types and limiting myself to one particular field was tough. My favourite sciences are Physics and Astronomy. In my spare time, I play hockey, compose music and look through my telescope almost every clear night.

G'day,

I am kotake [ko-ta-keh] and come from Poland. I attend the Norwegian equivalent of high school. I like physics, science and stuff, and I like long and aesthetic words.

And that's about it. Good night.

Edit: Yey! I'm a lepton!

Hello all. I didn't pay much attention to this thread before.

I am Coral, a middle-aged woman living in the Southwestern United States. I know little about science but I have a curiosity about many things. You will find me posting mostly in the Politics and Psychiatry Forums but that does not mean I am not reading and learning in other forums. But my mind is probably not scientific because I feel little urgency to reconcile the contradictions within my own mind. I just let them drift around in my mind like a nebulous swirl -- probably because I am seriously ADD.

I like the internet/forums because it is something I can actually focus on with some success.

I have an M.A. in English, which is a mostly a useless degree in a small city with a poor economy and large university that turns out M.A.s in nonpractical subjects on a regular basis. I make my living precariously as a resume writer, business plan writer, and employment specialist. Most of my work comes from a government contract to work with people with disabilities.

The bane of my existence is financial paperwork.

My joys are my daughter, my friends, and my dog, who is learning to become a service animal.

Hello, I am at the Air Force Academy in Colroado Springs. I graduate next year. I study Geosciences mostly, but my interest in the world around us in all facets runs deep...

Hi Synaptik -

I like geology too. I became interested because of the Chesapeake Bay Impact crater, which is buried a few hundred feet beneath me. Check it out.

My name's Blackfin, and I was referred to this forum by Mokele. I'm a junior in high school, and right now I'm busy surviving AP Bio, AP Environmental Science, and Marine Bio I. My interests lie very strongly in the area of marine biology, my specialty being marine mammalogy energetics. I also want to study apex marine predator ecology - organisms like mackerel sharks, orcas, etc. because I think the predator/prey relationship gets glossed over and that we are screwing over prey species by eliminating predator species, and generally weakening ecological resilience overall.

^^; I'm only 17, so, forgive me if I'm not up to par with some of the professionals. I work hard at being well-read and gaining practical experience, but I have only so much opportunity being at the high school level. A little bit of history... I fell in love with science in 9th grade during my first Bio I H class. To me it is an entire way of looking at the world, and I think it takes a lot of guts to willingly question everything and abandon the complacency of taking things at face value that plagues so many people today. That's why anyone involved in science - a student, a scientist, a lay person who watches the Discovery Channel - gets my respect, because they're brave enough to question and put forth the effort to see the world as it is, not how it's just "supposed" to be.

I will do my damndest to back up every post I make with some sort of source or documentation, and I will also do my best to challenge and clarify misconceptions about certain biological concepts. I will also do my best to call other forum members on their bluffs, and debate them if they state something as a fact without sufficient back-up. I will put forth my best effort to critically evaluate all of my own conclusions and make sure I've thought through an opinion before I post it, and if you can show me I'm wrong, I'll admit it readily.

Currently I plan to attend Eckerd College to get a B.S. in marine biology, and then attend graduate school at USF College of Marine Science. My end goal - the final ultimate goal - is to become a professor of marine biology, hopefully somewhere here in Florida.

Hey' date=' another girl.

And just like the majority of them, she uses really birght colors that hurt the eye!

No offence but I can guess what her profile looks like with AIM. Oh well.[/quote']If you edit out a man's chauvinistic posts, you humble him for a day. If you let the SFN women respond to his nonsense, you humiliate him for a lifetime.

Well, I normally don't post in bright colors...I felt like being an ass. I also do not have a profile on AIM and I have been a member of this site for awhile, just forgot about it until recently when kenel reminded me. So, offense has been taken. JERK!

PS - I was kidding, I do not really think you're a jerk.
