Deified Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 32, 81, 64, 25... Whats the next number? This should be really easy for most people here. I'm only posting it because it hasn't been solved at my school by anybody besides me and I wanted to gauge how hard it actually is. My school is pretty mathematically and scientifically deficient. Please post how long it took you.
jordan Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 6...a little more than a minute. It was the 32 that threw me off a bit.
Deified Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 Yea, 32 is a number most people associate with 4 or 8, but not 5. It took me about 30 secs I think.
Callipygous Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 yeah, six. took me a minute or two. the 32 is deffinately the trick
john5746 Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I saw the answer, so it was easy after that. natural inclination is to think of one variable at first.
Guest vikasj007 Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 guess i'm not smart enough, but would still like to find out how???
jordan Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 xy,(x+1)(y-1),(x+2)(y-2),... This particular sequence happens to start at the point (2,5).
paganinio Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 oh my gosh it's not only 32, EVERY NUMBER is tricky here. Because...who would come up with things like that!?
RedAlert Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Ya I didn't get it either. I was totally stumped. What grade are all you guys in?
Callipygous Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 senior (asking what math class might yield more important information)
reverse Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Ha! that's a good one. I only got as far as the squared part. that is really a good one.
Deified Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 I'm only in 9th as well. I really like this problem. I think it's one of those where you either have it in a minute or two or you'll never get it.

dan19_83 Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 i think this is THE most out of place reply i've ever seen in this forum!!!
Deified Posted April 24, 2005 Author Posted April 24, 2005 I'll have to agree with that. Some pretty bad spelling too. Rather interesting though, obviously some primary research into the eating habits of snails.
dan19_83 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 it's not exactly a brain teaser though! maybe we have to figure out why she was so dumb to put it here in the first place!!!
