Drederick Tatum
Hello I am a MMP form Portland (Medical Marijuana Patient). I do not partake in cannabis personally but at the request of my patients I have been asked to provide BHO. BHO stands for Butane Hash Oil. The process is using a refined butane (usually 5X refined) and extracting it from cannabis to achieve an oil or a honeycomb like form. Usually an extraction tube is used where cannabis is packed into a glass tube with a tiny spout at the end and a filter at the opposite end. Through that spout a refined butane is ran through and captured into a glass pyrex casserole dish. That dish is then heated to a temperature of I'm guessing about 120f so the butane is burnt off and the oil remains. I'm aware not all the butane is purged at this point so I will then run the thick sludge that is left through a Vac-it pro, which is essentially a home vacuum chamber. I'm looking to achieve 29.5 hg per purge all the while leaving the vacuum chamber on a griddle that is at a constant temperature of 130f so the sludge is heated and the butane that is left is easily extracted. I'm planning on doing several purges to the point where I am left with a brittle glass like residue. I will be using a laser heat thermometer to ensure that I am at the temperature on the griddle that I am looking for. I am looking to extract all the butane from the oil and my goal is to not give anything toxic to my patients. Maybe this is not the place to post this but I'm just curious about what this community thinks about this method. I really don't want to poison anyone so I really appreciate any feedback. I plan on purging the oil till it becomes a glass like state. At this point I've heard all the butane is out. Is this true? I have no facts to base any of my information off of so appreciate any educated opinions on what I'm about to try. Thank you very much to anyone who responds I've tried posting on some cannabis sites but I feel no one is educated or has any scientific facts to back up their methods of performing this. Again my main goal is to extract all the butane from my oil so no one inhales anything toxic that I provide for them. Thanks again I'm just a nice guy trying not to hurt already sick patients. John Cuthber
Without commenting on the morals or wisdom of any other aspects of this process: by the time you have dried the material down to a solid there will be so little butane there that it won't be an issue, or rather it will be less of an issue that the other materials naturally present.
