Externet Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Asking the opposite would be more 'normal' ; that thread already exists... The brain size has an upper limit, so, In your opinion which animal is the most stupid of all ? Downward in scale, the tiniest brain should fall into insects and perhaps microorganisms, and opinions on the most stupid creatures can fall in a grey area, but, Do you have of a notable choice ?
EdEarl Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) I think some jellies have no brain. They must be among the least intelligent. However, the sea anemone has no brain according to: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/02/130220084436.htm Edited August 4, 2013 by EdEarl
Ayesha Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 If looking at the body weight:brain weight ratio, the hippopotamus is not looking too smart while talking about the intelligence of mammals.
John Cuthber Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Does trashing the environment to a point where you risk wiping out your entire species count as evidence of low intelligence? If so, then I think I may know a good candidate for dumbest species. 1
imatfaal Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I don't know what the least intelligent species is - but I think one of them just opened a new thread in Speculations which over-throws Einstein and nearly gets me crackpot bingo!

I don't think that social insects should be included in the list. Social insects such as bees and ants exhibit a collective intelligence as an emergent property of the entire nest.
dimreepr Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I don't think that social insects should be included in the list. Social insects such as bees and ants exhibit a collective intelligence as an emergent property of the entire nest. The problem here is that the emergent quality of the hive intelligence is often dependant on stigmergy.
