Answers and steps are highly appreciated. Thank you all for reading. 1) At 10 p.m. a 5 foot 6 inch tall young lady is directly below a street lamp which is on a pole 25 feet in the air. This young lady begins walking in a straight line away from the street at 6 feet per second. After how many seconds is the shadow she casts 11 feet long? 2) Given triangle ABC. Let E be a point on line AB and D be a point on line AC such that line DE // line BC and BD bisects angle ABC. If AE=4, AC=18 and BC=15 then what is the length of DC?
Mart Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 At 10 p.m. a 5 foot 6 inch tall young lady is directly below a street lamp which is on a pole 25 feet in the air. This young lady begins walking in a straight line away from the street at 6 feet per second. After how many seconds is the shadow she casts 11 feet long? It's a two stage problem. Draw a piicture of the situation. Place the distance numbers that you know in the picture. Use X to show the distance number you don't know. Use similar triangles to equate your numbers. Then you will be able to find X using some algebra. That's the first part. Second part follows after you've done this (that's when you use the 6 feet per second. You need to do this for yourself. If you get stuck attach the picture you drew and we can continue.
goodyhi11 Posted January 29, 2005 Author Posted January 29, 2005 Thank you mart for your good advice. Tell the truth I didn't expext any answers. I have already tried these two problems myself, and i can't solve it. I know I should do these myself, but that's not required.
goodyhi11 Posted January 29, 2005 Author Posted January 29, 2005 Some people appear to me as if they know everything. And they probably do know a whole lot more than me. I made a promise to myself, I need to try really hard to catch up with them.
ydoaPs Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Answers and steps are highly appreciated. answers aren't supposed to be given. this forum is for homework HELP, not answers.
Mart Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I know I should do these myself, but that's not required. I'm puzzled. If you are not required to do them then why bother?
Mart Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 Some people appear to me as if they know everything. And they probably do know a whole lot more than me. I made a promise to myself, I need to try really hard to catch up with them. They don't know everything. They do know more about some things than you do or I do. That's good. They can help us if they want to. Unfortunately some people who have a lot of knowledge in certain areas don't want to share it. You may not need to try harder. You may just need to try things in a different way. If your attempt to solve a problem isn't working search for other methods.
