Lots of rain this year has allowed my cacti to do some spectacular blooming, I have at least a dozen cacti of various species that have been blooming well this year, I do love my cacti...

How often do they bloom Moon? Is it annual or not? Whichever - they are great pictures . TFS

Cacti are perennial, they start blooming in the late spring and through the summer, the ones in the top pic bloom all summer with new blooms every few days but the blooms open up at night and close the next morning and drop off. Some of the other cacti bloom only once a year or so but the blooms stay open for several days.

I used to hybridize cacti to get various colors and shapes of blooms and cacti, I am thinking of starting again...

Ah - being a real city boy and knowing next to nothing about plants and horticulture I thought that cacti were irregular bloomers. Aren't some desert plants so infrequent and so fleeting that you are lucky to see two bloomings in a lifetime of study?
