Alternative to Novikov self-consistency principle

Instead of not being able to change the past in sci-fi time travel, my idea is that a change to the past would create overwrite waves, overwriting the universe/time events at the speed of time.

 

In other words, it is like restarting a level after a game over/losing.

So, if one object were to travel back in time it would restart the Universe at that point for all of us?

 

Others have suggested that you would tunnel into an alternative Universe, therefore you cannot actually effect your own past.
