Complete Born-Haber cycle for reaction of magnesium and sulfuric acid

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I am studying thermochemistry and trying to find the complete Born-Haber cycle for the reaction of H2SO4(aq) + Mg(s) to MgSO4(aq) + H2(g).

Mg(s) + H2SO4(aq)

∆Hf[Mg(s)]

Mg(l) + H2SO4(aq)

∆Hv[Mg(l)]

Mg(g) + H2SO4(aq)

2 ∆Hb[O−H]

Mg(g) + 2 H• + SO42-

−∆Hb[H−H]

H2(g) + Mg(g) + SO42-

−∆Hie1[Mg(g)]

H2(g) + Mg(g)+ + e- + SO42-

−∆Hie2[Mg(g)]

H2(g) + Mg(g)2+ + 2 e- + SO42-

This is what I came up with. Is this correct, and if so, how can I proceed from here? Any help would be greatly appreciated smile.png
