husmusen Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 It won't be the greatest sadness of my life . I decided something was not quite right with the series on that episode where they got the borg in. In every other startrek borg episode, except some of the voyager ones, they explored some theme, BOBW, I-Borg etc... In ST-VIII the borg where, every so slightly, creepy. This was I think due to good directing, the acting of fear by well known characters, and little touches such as the borg looking up suddenly whenever they messed with the panel. But in the enterprise episode, I didn't feel anything, not to mention the absurdity of such a primitive crew being able to touch the 24th century borg. You remember the same borg who had adapted to every modification that Laforge had engineered, being taken out by a primitive pre-tog phaser. Cheers.
MulderMan Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 http://slashdot.org/articles/05/02/08/1551243.shtml?tid=214&tid=129 just seen that on slashdot. ive only watched one epp of enterprise and felt it let down the rest, but im only a recent fan of star trek...
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 ROFL! I think that will be a controversial site. Unless, of course, that was sarcasm.
Hellbender Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Like I said, I think you would have difficulty spotting it as your media is literally saturated with it. not to butt in, as I have never been a fan in any way of any Star Trek-related shows, but I agree with Sayonara3 here. Its hard to see in our media, being such a pluralistic (well, ideally) country. In an effort to attract more viewers, many shows have a multi-ethnic cast. Being that usually means portraying not just the physical race, but also their stereotypical identity as well. The African-American will usually be tough, street-smart, etc. the Asian will usually be smart and/or know a martial art, the Englishman will usually be "stuffy", etc. etc. I am not referring to one show in particular, but after watching a variety of American shows, this racial stereotyping becomes self-evident.
Hellbender Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 If what you are saying is true about this Enterprise program, then it is a prime example of this phenomena.
Hellbender Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 not to butt in' date=' as I have never been a fan in any way of any Star Trek-related shows... Edit: I am more of an original Star Wars fan myself. *Ducks head*
atinymonkey Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Englishman will usually be "stuffy" Me!!! I'm stuffy!!!
Hellbender Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Me!!! I'm stuffy!!! I never said you are, I was just saying that in America, Englishmen are all falsely portrayed that way.
Phi for All Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I never gave Enterprise mush of a chance. I saw one episode, lost most of a good dinner and called it quits. I'm a fan of Live long and prosper, but not for that show. Me!!! I'm stuffy!!!Stuff Monkey = a pack rat, one who keeps things indefinitely. Stuffed Monkey = a plush toy, usually kept on a girl's bed. Stuffy Monkey = a Brit with a head cold; a ninjutsu ryu.
