Externet Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Hi. Is there a technical reason why the sunlight ducts are mostly shown and installed with a couple of bends as per the picture attached instead of straight up ? ----> http://www.consumerconstruction.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/solatube-300x234.jpg
swansont Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Some are straight up. http://www.tru-lite.com/ The angle is because the roof is angled, and also because the collector may not be directly over where the diffuser is to be placed. You want the collector to get as much sunlight as it can, so usually that means having it parallel to the ground (though that will depend on the house's orientation) The diffuser also should be parallel, to disperse the light evenly.
Enthalpy Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 (edited) In a commercial document, I'd put a picture where the duct has bends, just to show it's possible. Edited October 5, 2013 by Enthalpy 2
