Chemistry2017 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 How can i determine which element is a stronger reducing agent? I have a homework problem that ask if Fe is a stronger reducing agent then Cu. How does one determine this?
studiot Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Well a stronger reducing agent will displace a weaker one during a reduction reaction. So find a reducing reaction where Cu displaces Fe or the other way round. Note the same is true of oxidation reactions, a stronger oxidising agent will displace a weaker one.
