petrushka.googol Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Oxygen and carbon have double covalent bonds. Are these bonds of equal strength? (as the number of bonds are the same) Please advise. Thanks in advance.
mississippichem Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The effective nuclear charges of carbon and oxygen atoms are different, so are their atomic radii and electronic configurations. Their double bonds will be of different energies as a result.
