turionx2 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Lately I've tried consuming more soaked white rice to see what it would do and my sex drive skyrocketed. Is it a good hypothesis to state that rice consumption on a daily basis eventually leads to overpopulation? http://irri.org/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=12109〈=en

Externet Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 In reverse; -Would overpopulation eventually cause consumption of rice ?- Because more nutritive foods become scarce or too many mouths to feed in the family forces to choose a cheaper food ?
Moontanman Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I stopped eating rice and my sex drive sky rocketed, in fact nearly anything i do causes my sex drive to sky rocket... even sky rockets... 2
Greg H. Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 @OP: Remember this phrase. Correlation does not imply causation.
Strange Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 And the singular of anecdote is not data. I'm not even sure there is a meaningful correlation. Of those top 10 rice consumers, only 3 are in the top 100 for fertility rate. Japan isn't even in the top 200. What does correlate with lower birth rates is health, wealth and education. 1
swansont Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 @OP: Remember this phrase. Correlation does not imply causation. Another fallacy in play is post hoc ergo propter hoc (happened after therefore was cause by). Example: There were no nuclear bombs until after women were granted the right to vote. I'm not even sure there is a meaningful correlation. Of those top 10 rice consumers, only 3 are in the top 100 for fertility rate. Japan isn't even in the top 200. Ah, but sex drive and fertility rate are not necessarily correlated, because health, wealth and education also probably correlates with availability of birth control. You would have to correct for these factors. 1
turionx2 Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Insulin does raise spermatogenesis and rice increases insulin the most. https://www.google.com/#q=insulin+spermatogenesis http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/33/4/760.full.pdf I've never had my sex drive raised this much by any other food I've ever eaten.

Not arguing against this, just thought I'd throw in the fact that Japan has had a problem, not only with fertility, but young people refuse to even be in relationships.
EdEarl Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Not arguing against this, just thought I'd throw in the fact that Japan has had a problem, not only with fertility, but young people refuse to even be in relationships. Vietnam has a smaller population than Japan, but consumes more rice; thus, the suggestion that young people refusing relationships is due to them eating rice is absurd. You could also blame it on the fact that Japan consumes whale meat or shark fins, but I suspect they are also bogus, since they are traditional foods and Japan's population reduction is recent. The scant amount of information I have about Japan's negative population growth seems to be related to their work ethic and failure of their society to provide adequate jobs; thus, leading to low self esteem in young men. But, my understanding is no doubt simplistic and probably inaccurate. Edited November 16, 2013 by EdEarl

Sure, wealthy and educated people are more likely to use birth control, however they may also be sexually repressed by their society and/or the media, and use pornography because of the sexual repression, which would then lead to their sexual obsession towards pornography. How is health correlated to lower birth rates? If wealthy and educated men are healthy, why is there a trend of infertility amongst the rich? Edited November 16, 2013 by turionx2
