Consumption of rice eventually causes overpopulation?

In reverse;

-Would overpopulation eventually cause consumption of rice ?-

Because more nutritive foods become scarce or too many mouths to feed in the family forces to choose a cheaper food ? tongue.png

And the singular of anecdote is not data.

I'm not even sure there is a meaningful correlation. Of those top 10 rice consumers, only 3 are in the top 100 for fertility rate. Japan isn't even in the top 200.

What does correlate with lower birth rates is health, wealth and education.

@OP: Remember this phrase.

Correlation does not imply causation.

Another fallacy in play is post hoc ergo propter hoc (happened after therefore was cause by).

Example: There were no nuclear bombs until after women were granted the right to vote.

Ah, but sex drive and fertility rate are not necessarily correlated, because health, wealth and education also probably correlates with availability of birth control. You would have to correct for these factors.

Not arguing against this, just thought I'd throw in the fact that Japan has had a problem, not only with fertility, but young people refuse to even be in relationships.

Vietnam has a smaller population than Japan, but consumes more rice; thus, the suggestion that young people refusing relationships is due to them eating rice is absurd. You could also blame it on the fact that Japan consumes whale meat or shark fins, but I suspect they are also bogus, since they are traditional foods and Japan's population reduction is recent.

The scant amount of information I have about Japan's negative population growth seems to be related to their work ethic and failure of their society to provide adequate jobs; thus, leading to low self esteem in young men. But, my understanding is no doubt simplistic and probably inaccurate.

Notice I never said that it was due to eating rice. Nor was it indicated in any other post.

Sure, wealthy and educated people are more likely to use birth control, however they may also be sexually repressed by their society and/or the media, and use pornography because of the sexual repression, which would then lead to their sexual obsession towards pornography.

How is health correlated to lower birth rates? If wealthy and educated men are healthy, why is there a trend of infertility amongst the rich?
