Salome Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Hi all, I've been doing some research on production of recombinant insulin, I've been able to find anything on insulin production insect cells. Does anyone has an idea why insulin wasn't produced in baculovirus?? Appreciate your help
CharonY Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I am not sure what you really mean. You cannot use a virus by itself to overexpress a protein. If your question is why one did not use a viral vector to introduce it into a insect cell lines to produce insulin there, then the answer is that large scale protein production is easier in bacterial cells, if they can be produced well enough.
Salome Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Yes, this is what I mean. I looked extensively, and found it weird that no one used an insect expression system to express insulin. but my purpose is a stable expression rather then a large scale production. Thank you very much for your help.
