It seems there is still conflict over why we see scintillation in the recti-linear grid - perhaps the fact that we don't in the sinusoidal can help explain the former (or at least get rid of incorrect hypotheses) as the last paragraph on the wiki suggests. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grid_illusion For those who do not wish to click through for initial illusion here it is
