Rockgirl Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Hello, Rock hunting in payson Arizona and found some items we can't identify at all. So confused. can anyone help me?
Endercreeper01 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Can you show us a picture of the rocks?
Rockgirl Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 I don't see an option to attach one? Is there a trick to post pics?
iNow Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Easiest to load them to an external site like photobucket or imageshack or something. Then, put the URL here.
Rockgirl Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 First one is weird. It's purple with red streaks. The next few are smooth and green with dots. Then there is the Jupiter rock. These do not react hardly at all in CLR or vinegar. The pics aren't great I know. Hard to get the colors to show right. The green with dots is killing me. We got tons of it and some pieces have these bands in them. We have not done much to the rocks yet either so they are rough.
Rajnish Kaushik Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 they are weird rocks i have seen only last two in india so sorry i wont be able to help
Rockgirl Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 I have read that jade can be found there do you think that's what it is? We have been all over payson and this is the only spot and time where we found rocks like them. I brought back buckets full of them because they were so pretty and intriguing.

Acme Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I'm having trouble with the Quote and Linking functions, but 2nd photo looks like agate. Agate is a type of chalcedony and green chalcedony may be called chrysoprase. Search the underlined terms at Wikipedia. Hope that helps rockgirl. 1
Rockgirl Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Thank you! Although after looking I don't think so. It said all these places in Europe are where it's usually found. These were in the mountains in Arizona
Acme Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Arizona has agates as well. Take you rocks to the nearest university geology dept. and they'll be happy to help you. Or try this site for at-home ID. >> http://rockhounds.com/rockshop/rockkey/index.html
Ophiolite Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Going from left to right, then down the page: 1. Difficult because of poor focus, but I think a metamorphic rock, specifically a gneiss. But it could just as well be a migmatite, or even a cataclasite from a fault zone. 2. I agree with other posters. It is some form of amorphous silica. 3. Picture too small and unfocused. 4 Looks like marble. i.e. metamorphosed limestone, 5. Limestone 6. Really need to see a fresh surface, but it could be a schist. 7. Might almost be a stromatolite These are informed guesses, but the lack of fresh surfaces, and sharp focus, are major limitations. I would not bet on any of these guesses.. Edited to correct typing of amorphous. Edited January 30, 2014 by Ophiolite 1
