MichaelHDurso Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I saw a few videos on quantium levatation and its fasinating! using a superconductor with liquid nitrogen and a super magnet can make something stay in the air in one spot and you and move the object and it stays the same position once you move it. i saw a video where the japanese were using it as transportation. floating cars here we come! I was hoping someone could explain how it works Edited January 27, 2014 by MichaelHDurso
Enthalpy Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Type I superconductor let the necessary current flow at the surface to prevent the magnetic induction pass through them - within limits that are weak to technological uses. That's the Meissner effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meissner_effect You can model this effect by a virtual magnet, at a position symmetric to the real magnet, versus the superconductor flat surface, and with the opposed orientation so the sum of both magnets' field is zero at the superconductor's surface. The repulsive force felt by the real magnet is then the same, whether cause by the superconductor or by the virtual magnet, because the total field is the same in both cases. The experiment is usually done with type II superconductors, which accept a magnetic induction through them but brake any change. Some of these accept the less cold temperature of liquid nitrogen, have a more stable position in the field. Maglev trains use varied effects. The Transrapid produces an attractive field with copper coils and iron. The SCMaglev uses repulsive induction that results from time variation due to speed, so its superconductors only reduce the losses of an old effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transrapid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCMaglev so in both cases, the effect differs from Meissner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_levitation
Shelyagova Victoire Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Hello dear! I want to show you amazing video with levitation effect. This is me - a flying model on 2G HTS hoverboard Please search in Google "SuperOx hoverboard' This video came out couple days ago. This is reality we do. If anybody need superconductor - we can send it in Europe and worldwide.

We wouldn't mind seeing a video of what you're doing, as long as it isn't obviously commercial. If you can stay to discuss your work, that would be best, since we're a science discussion board.
