A friendly reminder to our newer members to please read the rules and etiquette guide in case haven't already done so.

Older members may also wish to review them, in case you missed any announcements about small modifications we've made.

Periodic refresh of this, and since it's come up, a note that spamming people with PMs is frowned upon. If you are getting unsolicited/unwanted messages, please let the staff know via the report function at the bottom right of the message.

Periodic bump to remind you to please read the rules and etiquette guide in case haven't already done so. Also to remind you not to respond to spam posts — please just report them. (Spam is actually easier to spot in the new content queue if there are no responses; a reply suggests a legitimate inquiry was posted)

Bump and a plea to not respond to spammers. If there's a response listed, a moderator might think it's a legitimate thread and not check into it. Please use the report post function (bottom line of the post)

Also, you only need to report spam from an account once, even if it has made multiple threads. When we spam-ban, it removes all of the content.

Also to remind you that if the only response you can muster for a post is "troll" (or similarly devoid of content) it will likely be hidden. Please stick to discussing the subject of the OP. Commentary of that sort is not helpful, not on topic and adds nothing to the discussion.

Today's reminder is about the report post function. The "Report" is found on the bottom line of every post. It's how to bring posts that may be violating the rules are brought to the attention of the moderators.

This is preferable to simply complaining about the post in the thread, or calling anyone a troll, or any similar actions. We would ask that you leave the moderating to the moderators, and only discuss the topic of the thread in your responses.

A reminder, in addition to above, that if you want to respond to a statement in a thread but know it would be off-topic, you can start a new thread (in the appropriate section) and copy/paste the quote

It's probably best to include the quote tags from the original post — hit "reply", and in the editor (toggle out of the WYSIWYG mode), copy the post. The close that tab without responding. Paste into the new thread, and edit as appropriate.
