I'm trying to invent something but I need to bond transparent plastic and aluminum together without adhesives or any types of screws or bolts. And I need to make it look like the plastic is smoothly transitioning into the aluminum. But I also need a strong bond between the two. Please help!!!

i would need to know the physical dimensions as well as mechanical stresses of daily use.

trying to adhere something without adhering it is a task.

i suggest that some form of thermomoulding technique should be employed in the assembly process.

you would need surface area for this to be a durable piece.

It is difficult to solve your dilemma, I suggest you lower your initial expectations and try some alternatives first, you will likely learn some new insight into your idea. Its not a bad direction to begin with. Simpler and less complicated at first, working towards more difficult processes.

I am thinking about a mechanical bond based on the concept of dovetail joint.

Something like this

Where both materials could be cut microscopically. It depends on the dimensions of the finished product.

That could be curved as well. Like a zipper.

Innovate, thanks for bringing your question to us here at SFN!

Please take some time and give a bit more detail about the invention you're describing. There are many solutions to this problem, but there is probably a "best" solution that can only be identified if we know a bit more about the general requirements for this "something". Is there anything more you can tell us without giving away too much about the invention?

While we wait for a little more information, perhaps I can already ask if it is a possibility to just use plastic for the whole thing, and just paint part of it in a silver-colored paint?
