Devansh Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Is there any authentic theory, how actually universe was created? If yes, please explain.
Fuzzwood Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Suddenly there was supposed to be a big bang. We don't know any before that because to our knowledge, there was no 'before' at that moment.
dimreepr Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I like Dr Krauss’ plausible hypothesis in ‘A Universe From Nothing’, in which he suggests the universe came about through a quantum fluctuation.
dimreepr Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I think it best I let Dr Krauss explain, here is a summary of his book and the link also contains the lecture on which the book is based. 1
IM Egdall Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 In science today, no one knows how the universe was created. But let me take a wack at explaining Krauss's proposal. (His theory is based on quantum gravity, which has no compelling evidence to support it. So its speculation): Per general relativity, the overall geometry of the universe can be open, flat, or closed. Per Krauss, there is only one type of universe where its “total energy is precisely zero.” This is a closed universe. In his theory, a closed universe can “appear spontaneously with impunity, carrying no net energy, Krauss writes.” But if the big bang began with a closed universe, it would have had a very short lifetime. “A closed expanding universe filled with matter will in general expand to a maximum size and then recollapse just as quickly.” This tiny closed universe would last perhaps about 10-44 seconds. But what if inflation occurred during the oh-so-brief period when our baby closed universe was still alive? Our closed universe would expand by a stupendous factor in a fraction of a second. As a result, the visible universe would now appears flat. We see a flat visible universe today. So, per Krauss, an initially closed universe made flat by inflation is a possible scenario for our universe — a universe created from nothing. Mordred Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) seeing as how zero point energy universe is mentioned lol. here is a historical coverage "Preludes to dark energy:Zero-point energy and vacuum speculations." http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1111/1111.4623.pdf. here is an interesting review on the model and some of the problems associated with describing curvature within the model. arXiv:gr-qc/0605063v3 16 Aug 2009ON THE ZERO-ENERGY UNIVERSE http://arxiv.org/pdf/gr-qc/0605063.pdf both articles are an interesting read Edited May 19, 2014 by Mordred
Mordred Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 This question has come up in another thread, rather than post again the same articles I'll add a reference. As the zero point articles are already mentioned here I'll link the later post where I posted some of the original model articles including Sydney Coleman's work in the question "Why is there something rather than nothing" http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/82331-universe-creation-theories/?p=807150
