i read in one of the undergraduate books that the frequency of the incident wave( it is more than the cut off limit)..falling on a given metal surface at a given intensity results in a current that does NOT depend in the frequency....

but, for a given metal , if the frequency is increased then the energy supplied increases thus the kinetic energy of the emitted electron also increases(..conservation law)...since the velocity of the electron now has increased, then dq/dt should increase as well...i.e,..the photo current should also increase...this contradicts the statement in the book...!

if there is something weomg plz let me know.... ^_^

thanx in advance...

The speed of the emitted electron does not change how many are ejected per unit time. dq/dt is a measure of how many pass by a given point per unit time rather than the speed.

Dr. swantson, do you think it should be velocity instead of "rather than the SPEED"?

Velocity is a vector and the direction here is not important, so speed would be the appropriate variable to discuss.
