Dark Energy

according to what I`ve heard, matter as we know it (Baryonic) is only about 4% of the Universe, another 25 to 26% is made of Dark Matter. the rest is made up of Dark Energy (70%ish)

 

it was also said that very little is know of Dark matter, and even less of Dark Energy.

 

the radio program didn`t go into great detail of anything (it was kinda dumbed down).

 

so, does anyone have any more info about this?

Well its hypothetical and it can't, or at least has not yet, been detected... it is supposed to have a negative pressure.

 

There's not much certain about it as its a (currently) non-detectable hypothetical thing, you probably heard much of what I can tell you on the radio.

Yes there was an article in Science about this.

 

Basically there are two leading candidates for the particles that may make up this mysterious form of matter: weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) and axions.

Basically it's possible that entangled quantum states in the universe may change interpretations of observations and even revise the concept of dark matter.

 

Better theories to explain dark energy could be subtle modifications to Einstein-Hilbert equation. Also evidence for comsic inflation is increasing.

it`s almost tempting to suggest that dark Energy/Matter could be that Hypothetical medium frequently called "Ether".

 

I`m sure it won`t take long before SOMEONE jumps on that bandwaggon with "I told you So" as their resounding theme.

I just stumbled over this thread and while reading it, this thought popped up in my mind, which is highly speculative but still interesting.

 

In the Big Bang, the same amount of matter and anti-matter was created, but the grouping was not even so when the annihilating was over, there was a small rest of matter and a very little rest of anti-matter leftover, which are all the matter in universe today.

 

What if part of the energy unleashed in this gigantic annihilation gave the universe angular momentum ?

I edited this post to explain a little more what I meant, instead of "bumping" it up on top with a new post.

 

The Big Bang is supposed to have started from a singularity and a singularity can have a spin.

So if the singularity who created the Big Bang had a spin before the 'beginning' or if the universe started rotating after, then the rotation could be the cause of the accelerating expansion.
