Chikis Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) How do I show the underline when am solving equations? Let say am solving simultaneuos equation using elimination and I want to show the underline which shows that there is subtraction or addition going on, how do I do that? For example, in 2c-10= a+5 c + 5 = a-5 c - 25 =10 Edited July 20, 2014 by Chikis

studiot Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Like this? 2c-10= a+5c + 5 = a-5 subtractc - 15 = 10
Chikis Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) No, not totally like that. It should be like this 2c-10= a+5c + 5 = a-5 c - 15 = 10 The minus (subtract) need not to be there. Any mathmatically oriented user that sees it, knows that minus/plus went on there. I think I know what to do, but my browser or device never allows me to do it. Edited July 21, 2014 by Chikis

It's not clear to me where in your example you want the underline. (Must be because you can't make one, huh? ) Anyway, if it's only in posts and without Latex, then you can type in the BB code if your browser is uncooperative. First click on the Toggle switch in the upper left corner of the Editor; that puts you in text mode. Now suppose you want to underline c - 15 = 10. Type this: [u]c - 15 = 10[/u]to get this: c - 15 = 10

Acme Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) What if it is with latex, how do I go about it? I had to search, but try this. >> LaTeX - underline text (font) in a LaTeX document LaTeX font question: How do I underline text in a LaTeX document? This actually ends up being one of the easiest things to accomplish related to LaTeX font formatting. Its a little inconsistent from the LaTeX tags you use to create bold and italicized text, all you have to do is use the LaTeX \underline tag: \underline{Text you want underlined goes here.} Note that the \emph{} tag can produce the same underlining results. The LaTeX book I was just looking at says that this is "usually" the case. I haven't tested this yet, though. If that doesn't work, someone here prolly knows. :fingers_crossed: Edit: Testing... [math]\underline{TestI want underlined goes here.}[/math]gives... [math]\underline{Test I want underlined goes here.}[/math] Voila! Edited July 21, 2014 by Acme
