For the first time, Gamma ray bursts have been directly linked with Super Novas. Previously the two could not be linked because rapid analysis of the GRB data has to be handed to astronomers to look for it with an optical telescope, The recent burst was relatively near and long in comparison to others, which facilitated it's study more easily.
